Let’s use a solid and a liquid to make a gas! The Primary groups (1st-3rd grade) tried this challenge.
The best part was how the children continued to question and wonder as we discussed our observations….
“I wonder if the gas is helium. Let’s take a balloon off, tie it in a knot, and see if it floats.”
“I think the liquid was water because it is 100% clear.”
“Let’s leave one and see if the gas is still in the balloon on the next school day.”
“We should try this again with different solids and liquids.”
“I’m pretty sure it was baking soda and vinegar because they create a reaction.”
The children will have the opportunity to revisit this experiment as they continue to question, build upon their prior knowledge, and draw conclusions. That is the Marvelously Made way!
