At the Farmhouse (3-5 years old), the children discovered moss balls sprinkled throughout The Outdoor Classroom. Curiosity and questions soon led to learning that our alpacas love moss balls!
The children enjoyed visiting the garden to feed the alpacas all that they collected from their classroom and from home.
They helped care for our animals this week and learned how their own actions and voice affect how the animals react and feel.
Noticing how the animal is moving its body or ears helps you know how it is feeling or what it needs. This skill also applies to people and therefore promotes social and emotional development.
Each time the children visit the animals, their interactions begin to teach them empathy and compassion towards all of God’s creations!
That is why our school is full of animals and these authentic learning opportunities. It is a valuable part of our Science curriculum.
